L-Screen vs Z-Screen, Which is Better for You

When you’re outfitting a professional facility or a dedicated home cage, the screen is the
most important piece of "insurance" you’ll ever buy. But I get asked all the time: "Coach, do
I really need the Z, or is the classic L-screen enough?"

Pro-Series L-Screen vs. Z-Screen: The

Ultimate Buyer’s Guide

When you’re outfitting a professional facility or a dedicated home cage, the screen is the

most important piece of "insurance" you’ll ever buy. But I get asked all the time: "Coach, do

I really need the Z, or is the classic L-screen enough?"

At Web Flex, we build gear for people who live on the dirt. Whether you’re throwing front toss

to 10U kids or live BP to pro-level hitters with 100+ mph exit velocities, the "right"

screen depends entirely on your workflow.

Pro-Series L-Screen

The Web Flex Pro-Series L-Screen: Industry standard for overhand batting practice.

THE PRO-SERIES L-SCREEN: THE WORKHORSE

The L-Screen is the industry standard for a reason. Its design is straightforward: a tall

vertical section to protect the pitcher’s body and a "cutout" (the L-shape) that allows the

pitcher to deliver the ball overhand or 3/4 without hitting the frame.

Best For:

Traditional Overhand BP: If you’re throwing from regulation distance (50-60 feet),

the L-screen provides the most comprehensive vertical coverage.

Versatility: It’s the "jack of all trades" easily flipped for lefties or righties in

seconds.

Maximum Protection: Our Pro-Series L-Screen features our most durable framing

and double-layered netting to handle the hardest comebackers.

Pro-Series Z-Screen

The Pro-Series Z-Screen: Optimized for front-toss and specialized situational drills.

THE PRO-SERIES Z-SCREEN: THE PRECISION TOOL

The Z-Screen (or "Short-Toss Screen") is a newer evolution designed for technical work. It

features a specialized notch at the top and a cutout at the bottom, creating a "Z" or "S"

shape.

Best For:

·       Front-Toss & Soft-Toss: Coaches can sit or kneel closer to the hitter (15–20 feet)

without the frame obstructing their arm path.

·       Small Spaces: Perfect for tight tunnels or backyard cages where footprint matters.

·       Specific Drills: The go-to for Hit and Run drills and situational hitting where the

coach needs a clear window.

The Pro-Series Difference: Built for the Grind

A screen is only as good as the steel holding it up. Our Pro-Series lineup is built

with heavy-duty, powder-coated steel that absorbs impact rather than kinking.

Combined with UV-treated pillowcase nets, these screens are designed to withstand

the daily rigors of high-level training environments.
